Marcia's Dream Note

Dear Fellow Dreamers,

It's been a month of non-stop travel for me and everywhere I go I'm meeting amazing dreamers. People like you who are not just thinking about or talking about their dreams, but who are taking action.

This picture, taken at our August Dream Coach University program in California, represents just a few of the amazing dreamers I meet.

Over and over what I’m struck by is that we are ordinary people, moms and dads, students, working professionals, artists, writers and entrepreneurs who are living extraordinary lives. We stand for causes and issues that matter. We’re extraordinary because we open our hearts and reach out both hands in an act of generosity. We are truly extraordinary because of our deep faith and hope in making the world a better place. I salute you as we show the world that dreams really do come true.

Dream Big,

Design Your Dream Life

Like any major project, Design Your Dream Life begins with the end in mind. You need to see and feel what you want to create before the execution begins. At the end of your life when you look back on what you created or accomplished, you’ll see what I call the essentials or “non-negotiables.” Start with the things that are the most important to you.

I’m sure this will include loving and being loved, being a great parent and partner, being a good friend to many, touching many people and contributing to many communities. What will have you say, "Yes, I lived my life and it was truly a blessing?"

The design phase begins with dreams. So awakening the dreamer inside of you may be the first essential step. Many of us have been stuck in reality and have become so masterful at problem solving (a useful skill) that it’s been a long time since the dreamer inside was nurtured, or at least heard.

Take some quality time to sit down with a journal or note pad and interview this amazingly wise part of yourself. Get reacquainted. Ask it what it wants and needs. Ask what its highest vision is for you. Ask it how you can have more access to it and it to you. Ask it anything you want to know and write down its answers.

There are places you may find you have more access to it. For me, nothing does it faster than a walk in Muir Woods or quiet time next to a wild surf. Your dreamer is a wise part of you, always available to offer ideas and insights. Develop a friendship, a true partnership with your dreamer and you’ll have instant access to one of the most critical members of your own Dream Circle.

There is a dream seed planted inside of you and it’s as unique as your own DNA. It’s been patiently waiting for you to tune in and truly begin to live the life of your dreams. To Design Your Dream Life, go beyond the ABC’s of the dream process and practice living as a dreamer.

Once you’re clear about what you want and believe it’s possible (read July's e-letter on faith), creating a strategy is easy. It’s never been a more important time for you to act on your dreams, so schedule a date with your dreamer today!

Dream Quote

"At least once a day, allow yourself the freedom to think and dream for yourself."
~ Albert Einstein

Dear Marcia,

I was just offered a great promotion but it will require that I'm away from my family for more time that I care to be. I really want to advance my career but not at the cost of my family. Can you help?
S

Dear S,

I hear this often. If we make it an "either/or" situation, both dreams usually suffer. Rather than looking at it as being successful at work or at home, why not create a dream that includes everything you want: to be successful at work and at home. This will require a different strategy, important conversations and creative negotiations. Better to use your energy on strategy than on worrying. I’ve seen people create miracles when something matters to them. Conflicted about “if” you should do it, great “how-to’s” may elude you. Begin with the powerful belief that you can make this work for everyone and be open to creative options. Let me know what happens.
