Marcia's Dream NoteDear Friends, I am currently flying home from the International Coach Federation’s convention. Over 1500 coaches gathered from all corners of the world to share insights, ideas and resources. Whether you are a professional coach or simply have the heart of someone who is committed to helping others, thank you. During this holiday season, from my heart to yours, thanks for being someone who walks the talk and is making the world a better place. Remember that your dreams matter and your gift of believing in others is an extraordinary act of generosity. Love, Make New Holiday MemoriesEvery year I say it won’t happen, and it does. I get swept away in the stress of the holidays. These include many things but all fit into one category. There is not enough time to do all I want and need to do. Now I get it. There is NOT enough time. So how we spend our time, our precious life, is what’s important. This holiday, I vow not to get so lost in the planning and execution that I miss the laughter, love and yummies. I will participate in making new memories that make me happy. To truly be thankful and appreciate what we have, we can practice being present. To be here, right now, is about living and enjoying life. Be here for yourself, your loved ones and the magic of life. Be present for your family and friends, for the holidays, for giving and receiving, for your dreams and for the daily miracles that occur, moment by moment. Sometimes, simply deciding what you can or can’t do or accomplish can be very healing. During this time of the year, for me, it’s usually not ideal to initiate a new project. Then again, this may be the perfect time for you to plan or work on something dear to your heart. It’s up to you. On a day-to-day basis, I suggest you decide what you can do that will keep you centered and balanced. Set yourself up for a day (or two) that is simple, or at least sane. Of course things can go askew, but if you retain some space in your life, unnerving surprises may become the exception rather than the norm and you will certainly have more capacity to deal with them. Take a look at what matters to you that you're not doing, that you're not being or having. What could you change or create right now that would make a difference? Don’t make this hard or complicated or restructure your entire life. Perhaps simply taking a deep breath (which includes exhaling) may be what you most need right now. Slow down and relax, let go of some of your unreasonable demands (on yourself and others) and you are sure to experience greater ease…perhaps even a little spare time. And rather than fill this time with more chores, let life catch up with you. Reconnect with an old friend, take a walk with someone you love, read a poem…or do nothing. With rest and realization, you can begin to feel your heart and soul. As you drink from the well to nourish and nurture yourself, you might find that you have extra time, energy and resource for others. Not only that, but as you make choices that align with your heart, life often becomes so rich that you won’t even have enough fingers to count your many blessings. But you will have the time. “A generous heart is a rich heart. Nurture your self and
others with generosity” Dear Marcia, With the holidays upon us, I feel a little guilty. I am living my dreams. What is the best thing I can do to give back? Thanks for your amazing work. T. ************* Dear T– There are many ways to contribute and share your blessings. I can sum it up in 3 words. Pay it forward. One of the greatest gifts we can give is our time. Whether it is with your own family and friends or the strangers who could so benefit from your generosity, it begins by really being present. When we reach out to others through our hearts, we can truly hear their needs. Listen beyond the words. What is their heart longing for? We can write a check or make a donation of clothes or food. But sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is to look into someone’s eyes and say, “I believe in you.” Warmly, Need help? E-mail your questions.
