Marcia's Dream NoteDear Friends, The big news in my world is that after four years of challenges, we just moved into our dream home. The story is amazing and inspiring and perhaps the next time we are together I can share it with you. I am incredibly joyful and truly counting my blessings. It was a long, hard road getting here, but with the support of My Dream Circle I was reminded to demonstrate that I am more committed to my dream than to any doubt, fear or reality. Believe me, it works! Love, I Have A Dream & So Do YouEarlier this month, we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. He was a true visionary and I remain inspired by him. I’ve been speaking about achieving personal and professional dreams for over twenty years and there is one thing I know for sure: shortcuts and amazing resources show up when you share your dream. Here are a few examples: Some dreams come from our past. Dottie from Redwood City recently found a handwritten letter in her mother’s bureau to a dear old friend. It said many things including, “It’s been six months since we lost our Joey. Things are tight but we get social security for Dottie Jo, $44.90 and we got a check for $200; a lump sum payment for the death.” The letter was an account of the day her father died written by her mother in 1954. Dottie’s mom, a farm girl from Fresno, who is still alive, always wanted to do something with that letter but didn’t know what. Dottie posted her own dream to publish it. She re-typed the smudged carbon copy and is about to enter it into a writing contest in a Foster City paper. These women share a dream and together they are pursuing it. In the second half of life, Mary Jean wanted to take up a fun sport. After much research and a few demos she became the proud owner of her own kayak. Being out on the water at dawn and witnessing the breathtaking beauty of each day unfolding has added a new dimension to her life. She said, “I cannot tell you what a thrill this is for me. My life has so much passion again!” Now she is training for a three-day, 50-mile paddle on desolate waters in the beautiful Laguna Madre in Texas. Some dreams come from our concerns. Cheryl is a nutritional counselor and mother who is worried about what kids eat in school. With obesity and heart disease reaching kids in growing numbers, she is rallying her community to make changes to the school lunch program and policies. Her dream is to see children eating healthy at school and being educated in how food affects their learning ability. She will present initiatives to the Virginia School Board this fall. And some dreams come from a calling. For example, Nancy is completing her advanced degree in psychiatric health care to work with torture victims suffering from post- traumatic stress syndrome in third world countries, while at the Women's Education Network; Pat’s mission is to give women and minorities a larger voice. We all have dreams, and not all dreams need to be Dr. King-sized dreams. Dreams of quality time with family and friends or something that makes your heart sing is just as valid. What makes it your dream is that it’s important to you.

Dream Quote
"If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time." Dear Marcia, I sometimes wonder, actually, if what I think of as dreams are dreams at all... or if they're simply "next steps" in this amazing life journey of mine. How do you tell the difference? Gratefully, A ************* Dear A, For me, a dream is the expression of my heart, something I long for, or that excites me, or perhaps touches or inspires me. A dream could be to change something that frustrates or angers you. I've seen people do amazing things in the name of "no more." At one level, a dream is simply something that you want and could be based on a need like sending your kids to a good school or a desire, like learning to play an instrument or living in a foreign country. There are also fun dreams like becoming a great cook or writing a book. What do you want? What would make you happy? What would actually have you say,"I am living a dream come true life?"
