I decided and chose to be happy. Please don’t read this or write it off as being sappy. I am absolutely 100% serious about happiness. There are a lot of books out on this topic right now. I have never read any of them. “Why would I need that?”, I silently thought. But I noticed I was moody, sometimes happy sometimes far from it. I saw that my state was often based on what was happening or not in my daily life. And then my moment of truth came. I remembered I used to be happy most of the time. It was a rather starling insight, but nonetheless true. I used to laugh a lot. I saw the glass half full and years ago, when I met my partner Patrick, he told me I was one of the happiest people he knew. But lately I’ve been grumpy, edgy, and often confused as I make new choices and changes in my life. I heard my Doubter surface daily (sometimes hourly) and my “bean counter” (the part of me that drives me to work harder and all the time) has been having a field day. And then I remembered it wasn’t always like this. Recalling this can be enlightening when you don’t use it against yourself to build a case, judge or make yourself wrong. But using it to make a choice that will make your life better, is a great idea. I created a daily practice of being happy every day and for as long as possible. And with that one little thought, one little choice, my life changed. And it’s been sticking. Today, I didn’t mind standing in line to board Southwest Airlines because I looked for something that made me happy and a few kids playing on the floor brought a smile to my face. I mined for more pearls. I notice that as I feel happy and grateful that I love my fiancé, our passion gets sparked. I am even happy with my body today. Not because it’s the ideal shape or size, but because it’s healthy and strong. Could it be better? Sure, but to be happy with how it is somehow has me eating less and better. Happiness provides many perks. So what can you be happy about right now? Perhaps create a happiness scale to check in at the end of the day to see how happy you were today. But remember, it’s your choice and a little practice can go a long way in reconnecting us to what matters. Happiness is important, but if taking it too seriously makes you work at it, lighten up and find something to be grateful for. Just writing this made me happy! In This IssueDream Quote"Happiness is a choice and one that can transform your life today.” Dear Marcia,
I had to write and tell you this - you'll love it! After I talked with you on Friday and signed up for the Dream Coach training, I was a little freaked out about how I was going to pay for it. Then, Saturday morning I get a call from a local event planner who is having a "Celebrate the Feminine" event on June 28th - an all day program with lectures and workshops on holistic health, personal development and spirituality for women. She asked me to speak about coaching and fulfilling your dreams and I'll have a table to sell products/services during the event. Can you believe it - the week after I get back from your workshop! Dr. Diane Hindman Dear Diane, You are a great example of what can happen when we take that step and act on what is in our heart. I am so grateful that you got instant feedback and that you allowed me to share it with all my readers. You are already embodying what it means to be a big dreamer and will make an awesome Dream Coach. Warmly, Need help? E-mail your questions.
